Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Dog

I have a problem.

Actually, I have a couple. Well, if I’m really being honest, I have a few.

All right. I have a whole list of them! OK????

It’s really not my fault, though. It’s in my genes. Of course, I’m talking about my Jack Russell Terrier heritage.

I have ADHD, also known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Dog.  Take a look at this list and see if you might have ….Oh look! There goes a squirrel.

Where was I? Oh, yeah.

They’re called my “issues.” According to the so-called experts, these are the symptoms of ADHD.

Hyperactivity

  • Fidgeting  when seated
  • Frequent walking or running around
  • Running or climbing excessively when it’s inappropriate
  • Difficulty in playing quietly
  • Always in motion
  • Barking excessively

Inattention

  • Easily distracted
  • Inability to focus
  • Shifting from one uncompleted activity to another
  • “Tuning out” others
  • Forgetfulness (the meaning of the word, “No.”)

Ya gotta be careful about getting an official diagnosis, though.  Next thing you know, they’ll have you on medications that make you think squirrels are your friends. Or worse, you’ll start staring at the  fish tank for hours.

My girlfriend JillBaby (another Jack Russell) recently asked me why she prefers to watch the fish swim around her human’s fish tank instead of going outside to chase moose and other things in the woods.

Jill, I know this might be because you are very deep and thoughtful.  Still,  I’m concerned. I suspect  your humans might be slippin’ a little something in your food or water. This is not normal for our breed.  We’re supposed to be constantly driving our humans to the point of exhaustion.

I say you find out what it is and put it in their coffee.

Then make it decaf, too.
